Why Your “Broken Down” Moments Lead To Your Most Incredible Growth

For us, this is a pretty good summary of how we spent our Wednesday:

Yesterday was an adventure to say the least!⠀ ⠀ We left Texas at 6:30 am with high hopes of driving as close to Park City as possible. Just after passing through Roswell (no aliens, btw) we heard a loud POP from the hood of our truck.⠀ ⠀ After freaking out and pulling off the road, we couldn't find anything wrong. Thankfully our @verizon Hum saved the day and alerted me of problem codes. Our turbo boost was kaputt – a big deal when you're towing your home.⠀ ⠀ We pretty much crawled to the next town 30 miles away, stopping a mile short of the gas station, since the broken hose blew through our diesel. Pete walked to get diesel while a mechanic walked me through how to find our broken hose over the phone. We were in the middle of nowhere, and none of the gas stations had the clamp we needed to temporarily fix the problem that would allow us to drive the 100+ miles left to Albuquerque. ⠀ ⠀ As we drove out of little Vaughn, NM we saw a mechanic's garage light on and pulled in with a prayer. It was an hour past his normal closing time, but he just so happened to hang around and have a beer with his friends that night – and he just so happened to have the exact clamp we needed.⠀ ⠀ After arriving in ABQ what felt like 3 days later, we dropped off our rig at the repair shop. Our amazing friends had wine and thai food waiting – and a nice hot shower!⠀ ⠀ Today, our truck is still in the shop, and our plans for Park City are a little delayed. We're not risking a snow storm, and so we're hanging here for a few days with friends. ⠀ ⠀ So why are we sharing all of this? Because in a day that threw a lot of stress and problems our way, we both had a peace about everything. Yes, it was inconvenient. Yes, it's frustrating. But you know what? God is good – all of the time.⠀ ⠀ Even in these unfortunate, unexpected situations, it's amazing to see His hand throughout it all. From Jude the mechanic who happened to stay at work late, to breaking down right before a city that our friends live in and have a place for us to crash. It's been one humbling + incredible experience learning to trust the Lord so deeply. All that to say is – we're safe + sound + God is GOOD!

For you,  it may look a little different…

Maybe it’s a new inquiry that didn’t decide to book…

Maybe it’s a mistake you made on a client project…

Maybe it’s even that feeling of not knowing what to do next in your life or your business…

Or maybe you’re quite literally broken down on the side of the road in the middle-of-nowhere trying to teach yourself how to reattach your turbo boost hose.

No? Just us?

Whatever it may look like in your life, the truth is – we all have those days.

The days when it feels like NOTHING is going your way.

The days when you just want to crawl into bed and wake up the next morning, gleefully forgetting all your worries.

The days when you have to make some hard decisions or learn things by getting your hands a little (or a lot – those turbo boosts are messy!) dirty.

But here’s the thing about those yucky days…

They’re usually some of the best.

Now before you think I’m all crazy, hear me out.

Yes – those days are no fun.
Yes – those decisions weigh heavy on our hearts.
Yes – those conversations may be a little uncomfortable.

But whatever those “days” look like for you, one thing holds the same.

Those difficult “broken down” days are usually the days of INCREDIBLE growth.

Whether it’s in your own mechanic abilities (if you can’t tell… I’m pretty pumped that I know how to find my intercooler and clamp on a hose!)…

Or more likely you’ll see immense growth in things like:
-Your own talents and abilities
-Your confidence in handling situations
-Your trust in yourself and others
-Your trust in the Lord
-Your ability to handle stress and uncertainty

These hard moments are the ones that refine us.

And honestly – if we ever want to grow, we need them in our lives.

No one experiences significant growth while they’re hanging out, sipping margaritas in their comfort zone.

It’s the broken down, you-need-to-figure-this-out-as-you-go kind of experiences that lead to some of the most INCREDIBLE growth.

So today, we just wanted to pop in your inbox to encourage you to step into those moments.

Maybe don’t seek them out – but certainly embrace them when they happen. Recognize them as an opportunity to grow as a leader, a business owner, a believer, a husband or a wife.

Soak up every single thing you can out of those broken down moments, and walk on knowing you are that much more better for them.

And if you need a little encouragement along the way, we’ve got your back 🙂

As always, we love hearing more about YOUR journeys. Your email responses + Instagram messages are some of our favorite ways to connect more with YOU.

If this is something that resonates with you, we’d love to hear how.

What did you learn from a sticky situation?
Are you in the midst of one of these moments and need a little encouragement?
Are you a “broken down” moment pro?

If you don’t share it with us, think about it for yourself. It’s pretty encouraging to look back at those moments that caused us so much stress + anxiety and realize how much we’ve actually learned in the process.

So here’s to learning in the mess of those broken down moments!

(And hopefully no more of them during the rest of our drive to Park City 😬)

xx
