When faced with a dilemma or trying to improve our disposition, it’s funny how many of us are so quick to turn to anything and everything around us for the change that we crave internally.
We try to find it in things, people, experiences… anything that we think can fulfill this inner battle that we have for change. It’s almost like the more we turn to outer things, the more we suffer internally. So when I came across these words by Plutarch, something sparked within me:
“What we achieve inwardly will change outer reality.”
Powerful words, right?
Its message hits to the core that when we make the necessary changes to ourselves internally, then we will be able to become who we aspire to be in reality. We are in control of our thoughts, our lives, and what we believe about ourselves to be true. That’s why real change can only stem from within us.
No one or anything can change us. We have to be willing to make the changes necessary within ourselves in order to have the lives we dream. We also have to be honest with ourselves about what changes we need to make. When we make the commitment to ourselves and are honest with ourselves, that’s when the real change inside of us begins and as a result, our lives will begin to dramatically change, too.
Coming across this quote has made me ponder on the inner thoughts that I have about myself and my life. It’s made me realize the things that make me who I am “inwardly” are the catalysts for who it is I become. And this is true for all of us.
Our perceptions become our reality. It’s only when we change inwardly that we are able to become who it is that we want to be. But we must force ourselves not to depend on others or things for this change. Instead, we must find the courage to make these changes on our own. I believe that if each of us would take more time to not be hard on ourselves but to gently make the improvements necessary to change our lives, then the world would be such a better place.
I think most of us are craving for something to fulfill our souls and to inspire us to finally become what we know we can be. So let’s take the step in doing so. Let’s move forward in changing ourselves so we can then move forward in changing the world. Because at the end of it all, like Plutarch stated, only real change for ourselves and the real world can begin when we decide to change inwardly…
