Life is what we make it. Period.
These immortal words reiterate that fact: “It’s not that life is so short, it’s that we wait so long to begin living.”
I recently read those words, and they really hit me.
Going through different situations at any point in your life never makes life easier. It’s just the opposite. It makes you feel completely bombarded. At times, the pressures of life seem to be more than anything you can bear. It makes it hard to live. When the storms of life come, many of us –in some sense–stop living. We surround ourselves in hopelessness or self-doubt. We stop doing things that we used to do. We put our lives on hold until the storms pass.
So, why is it that the storms of life seem to weigh us down or stop us from believing in ourselves and from moving forward with our lives? It’s like we allow ourselves to be completely overwhelmed by everything that’s happening…one thing, after another thing, after another thing that we feel like we can’t keep going.
I can understand that the pressures of life can be overwhelming and going through life can feel like so much to get through at times. But I’ve also come to understand that these storms are more than just storms. They are molding us and helping us to become what we need to be for what is to come next in our lives after the storm. There is some reason for each storm, though we may never understand. The storms can remind us of who we are, what we are capable of, and help us to live according to our life vision.
We have to learn to embrace the storms, because there will always be storms in life. Like legendary Jamaican reggae singer Bob Marley once said, “Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.” So, I’ve found that the best way to press forward when you’re going through a lot is to take LIFE in.
Take in the bad times. Take in the setbacks. Take in the discouragers. Take in the heartaches. Embrace the lessons learned. Accept the pains you have to endure. And most of all, fight your way through it with the utmost belief in yourself and the utmost belief that this storm too shall pass, just like how all of the others before it did.
Look, life is happening right now. Your life is happening right now. Don’t wait to live it. Don’t believe that you will always have another day. Life is too short. Enjoy every moment of life and love all of those around you helping you through those times when you are going through a lot. You will get through this storm, so just remember to embrace those rain drops in the meantime. I know it’s easier said than done, but it’s possible.
You just have to believe it and make it so.
