When You Forget To Prioritize What Really Matters

Today, we’re coming to you from a rainy and cold Park City (unfortunately just not cold enough to turn into some snow!).

We have one week left here, and it’s kind of crazy to us how fast this time has gone by…

You know those seasons in your life where you’re just heads down in work, suuuuuper excited about what you’re working towards, cranking out longer-than-normal hours to make it all come together…. only to lift your head up for air and realize JUST how much time has gone by?

This month has kind of been like that.

And while we’re super grateful for all the exciting changes in our lives + business…. these seasons and weeks can throw our balance out of whack.

Thankfully, we had a really great reminder this week to take a step back and make time for what REALLY matters: Pete’s mom.

We haven’t seen Pete’s mom since Thanksgiving week, and we were SO excited for her to visit! We knew we would still need to get work done this week, but we intentionally set our Wednesday aside and didn’t book any client calls so that we could take an entire day off to just enjoy and adventure together.

And man oh MAN was that such a needed reminder of what matters most!

We rarely take entire days off (except for our new Sabbath Sundays!)

Honestly, RV life makes it easy not too…

Most of the time, we can get a few early hours of work in, still get first chair on the slopes for two hours, and get back to work like normal. It’s one of our FAVORITE things about this lifestyle – the freedom to choose how we spend our time and the flexibility that comes with it.

But sometimes, we lose sight of that….

Maybe you’ve been there?

We’re going to take a wild guess that you didn’t start your business to work MORE, make LESS, and have LESS time with your loved ones… am I right!?

More likely, you started your business for MORE – more freedom, more time, more flexibility, and more purpose.

We did, too.

And yet… it’s amazing how easy it is to get caught up in work, in hustling harder (we’re so not fans of the word Hustle!), in needing to DO more for our business…. all while sacrificing the things that really matter – the reasons we started our business in the first place.

We had a conversation this morning with a friend and fellow RV Entrepreneur that really put this into perspective for us.

Our friend Heath was sharing how his family plans this big ski trip to Breckenridge every year, and they almost didn’t go because they were just plain ole exhausted from all of the work trips they had taken in the weeks prior. They had just finished hosting the RV Entrepreneur Summit and are gearing up to spend 2 months RVing around New Zealand (Yes – we are SUPER jealous, too!)

And then he Skyped his family and realized that missing out on those trips is the exact opposite of why he chose this lifestyle. He shouldn’t be MISSING time with family because he’s choosing work. He created his business and work in order to have MORE freedom to travel and spend with family. (They wound up booking a last minute flight and enjoying every minute of that family trip!)

We don’t know about you… but we’ve totally found ourselves in the same boat.

Too often we forget to prioritize what REALLY matters. We let our business building get in the way and distract us from what’s important… even though whole reason we’re building our business is to have MORE of what’s important!

Crazy right?!

So today, we wanted to give you a little reminder that we needed to hear ourselves…

Don’t forget to make time for what’s important.

Family. Freedom. Time. Experiences. Whatever your Why is – don’t forget to ACTUALLY live that out!

If you read this email and thought to yourself “I’ve TOTALLY been there…”, we’d love to hear your thoughts. How do you remember to prioritize what really matters? What helps you keep first things first?

If you haven’t been there, you’re better entrepreneurs than we are!

We’re constantly learning, failing, and learning some more – and we hope by sharing some of these experiences and “Aha” moments that we can encourage and inspire some of you to create purposeful lives AND profitable businesses.

With that, it’s time to log off and squeeze out a little more family time before Pete’s mom heads out tomorrow!

xx
