History was made this summer with Wonder Woman. It is clearly the biggest summer hit this year.
The highly anticipated DC film directed by Patty Jenkins starring Gal Gadot as the half-god, half-mortal warrior brought in over $100 million domestically.
For an opening weekend, this was the highest-grossing film directed by a woman. Wonder Woman is about so much more than the iconic red, white, and blue leotard and lasso. The film, while staying true to the classic elements of the character first introduced in 1941, is about the strength (physically and mentally) of this heroine as she combats the forces of evil, a male-dominated profession, and the objectification of women (phew).
There are many elements of Wonder Woman that anyone can identify with, particularly those who have fought an eating disorder or body image issues. Below are some reminders of the iconic attributes of Wonder Woman that Patty Jenkins brought to the big screen.

Her resilience.

It’s our ability to combat those challenges that creates that sense of resilience within each and every one of us. Some days, the battle is hard and we want to give up. When those days occur, find that tiny flame of resilience inside of you and ignite it to fuel your battle.
She exceeds expectations.
Wonder Woman, and the production team that brought her to life, has consistently crushed the outdated expectations of women since day one. The unfortunate reality is there will be people in the world who won’t expect you to succeed.
Well, the joke is on them. We all have the power to succeed in whatever we choose to pursue. Whether it is fighting Ares or an eating disorder, we all have the ability to win, despite what others may think…
