11 Ways You Are Probably Making Your Life Harder Than It Has To Be

Every decision begins with a choice.

That’s right. One act. One move. One step (right or left) when encountering a fork in the road.

Before we decide what to do, we should think about it. It’s a simple process and can make life less complicated. Thinking before acting can help us to navigate any situation – of course, with our end goals always being in the back of our minds.

However, here’s the problem: sometimes we don’t take the time to think. We just act, and make the wrong move. And many times, while making that wrong move, we don’t even realize it. That is… until later, when we begin to stress about why we aren’t where we want to be in our lives.

But don’t worry.

We want to help you think about the choices you make so that life doesn’t have to be as hard or complicated as you think. So here’s a list of 11 reasons as to why (and how) we often unknowingly make our lives harder than they have to be. Many of these reasons have not only sparked an “aha-moment” in us from time to time, but they might also spark one in you (*wink*).

1. We make decisions that we know we have no business making.

Some seem funny at the time, and some are just bad. Nuff said. Not much to explain here.

2. We hang out with the wrong people, a.k.a “the lost”/the partiers/the drifters/etc.

These people literally have no goals in mind. So in the process… they make us lost. Fun times! Sike.

3. We don’t listen.

Oh, and the list of people who we don’t listen to includes: our parents, our mentors, our smart friends, our bosses… you get the picture.

4. We live too much in the moment.

We just “act” and do what we want –in the moment. We don’t stop and think about the consequences of our actions later.

5. We rarely believe people when they show us who they are – the first time.

We constantly live on this hope that people will change. In reality, they usually don’t, and so we need to move on.

6. We never plan.

As Benjamin Franklin said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!” That is… you fail on getting to where it is that you want to be in life.

7. We always think we’ll have more time to get things done.

Procrastinating and “guesstimating” time causes problems. Lots of problems. This is especially true when it comes to reaching our goals.

8. We hardly take care of ourselves.

At various times, we can get so focused on our goals or having fun that we later can’t even function. Too much of anything hurts your health.

9. We often stress out about where we are in life.

We need to calm down and realize that where we are is only temporary. Our lives can change in the blink of an eye.

10. We lack appreciation for what we do have.

Sometimes we always think the grass is greener on the other side. That’s usually not true. Hence, once we get there, we want to go back to the other side.

11. We forget to realize that we have the power to change our lives at any moment.

Many times, we don’t believe that we have the power to really do anything that we dream. And that’s because we don’t believe. As Oprah said, we can only “become as we believe.” Therefore, we must tap into the inner power within us and simply try.

Do any of these hit home for you?

It’s OK. You can keep that answer to yourself.
