“When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.” ~Lao Tzu
In simple terms: Shed who you are in order to embrace who might become.
Sometimes your shedding can be unintentional, based on an unexpected experience. Sometimes your shedding could be forced with a challenge or situation that you have to endure. And sometimes your shedding can come from an experience that you wanted in order to better yourself. Whatever the case may be, ultimately your shedding draws you closer to your calling.
Imagine you are an onion being peeled. You are peeled layer by layer until you get to the core of who you are. A bit of you sheds with each experience that you encounter. And with each experience, you become closer to realizing more about yourself and who you are to become.
But see that’s the thing though, sometimes we have no idea of who we are to become. No idea, until we innately have a feeling that where we are supposed to be or where we are going is somehow connected to our calling.
So what is it that you do want to be? Who is it that you inspire to become? Whatever your answer may be, know that you have everything inside of you to become all that you were created to be. Everything. You just have to believe it, and “shed” the part of you that is preventing you from becoming what you might be.
To help you navigate along your path of becoming who you are, here are a few ways that might help you get there:
1. LET GO OF THE THINGS AND PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT ADDING TO YOUR LIFE.
What we do know for sure is that there are people and things that pull us away from becoming all that we are capable of being. There are people and things that invade our lives and take from us more than they add to us. There are also people and things that we need to let go of in order to become what we might be.
2. LET GO OF THE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS THAT YOU HAVE TOWARDS YOURSELF AND YOUR FUTURE.
No one ever became a better version of who they were, based on negative thinking. Every action begins with a thought. Therefore, before you can begin to become all that you might be, you have to think positively about yourself and what you are capable of becoming. Anything is possible and once you wholeheartedly believe that, you will start to encounter meaningful experiences and people who will give you belief in yourself.
3. LET GO OF ALL THE TALKING. INSTEAD, LESS TALKING AND MORE DOING.
Everyone always talks about their dreams, ideas, and things that they want to do to improve their lives. However, most people do not take a single action to actually make the changes necessary. Don’t be one of those people. Make the commitment to yourself that whatever you to change to become who you might be, you are willing to make those sacrifices. Remember, it’s OK (and actually a great thing) to shed parts of who you are now in order to embrace who you might become in the very near future. Believe in yourself.
