Sexual assault has become one of biggest issues affecting college campuses.
Last year, one of the largest studies on sexual assault and sexual misconduct conducted by the Association of American Universities (AAU) revealed (23%) of female college students reported they had encountered some form of unwanted sexual actions against them. Additionally, the study also found nearly 11% of them had unwanted contact included penetration or oral sex. The encounters were either done in forceful, threatening way or while they were incapacitated due to alcohol and drugs. The actions included everything from kissing to touching to rape.
But women are not the only victims of this.
There are also many male college students who become victims of sexual assault. One in 13 experience sexually assaulted during their college career, according to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center.
Every year, countless victims –male and female– suffer in silence from sexual assault, due to feeling stigma and afraid. But now, a new technology platform called, Callisto, could help thousands of college students who may become victims of sexual assault.
Jessica Ladd is on the Governing Board of Callisto. A passionate advocate and supporter of sexual health innovations, Ladd talked about Callisto in a TED Talk recently released. “We don’t have to live in a world where 99 percent of rapists get away with it,” she stated during her speech.
With Callisto, a new platform for college students to confidentially report sexual assault, Ladd is helping survivors get the support and justice they deserve while respecting their privacy concerns. “We can create a world where there’s a real deterrent to violating the rights of another human being,” she strongly said.
