Know, There’s Nothing Wrong With Having Some Curves

Our curves are what make us beautiful and unique. My curves and the beauty that’s within all come together in such a beautiful blend…

That’s what spring break taught me about my body, especially when I started to heal from my eating disorders years ago. I realized my body is my beauty. It is what makes me beautiful in every way. But coming to that notion used to be very difficult for me.

When you don’t feel beautiful or you feel like everyone else is in “perfect shape” during spring break, it can make you feel bad about yourself. You begin to think that the way your body shape is wrong, or you shouldn’t have as many curves as you do. Or even that you may need to take a drastic measure just to make sure that you look a certain way in that outfit or that bikini.

These types of feelings can make you feel insecure and it can make you start developing harmful behaviors that you never thought you would. To stop these feelings from coming, we have to begin to love ourselves, accept our individuality, and realize that we are beauty just the way we are.

When we compare ourselves to others, we lose sight of our own true beauty and what we can offer to the world. And sadly, nothing is more devastating to our human spirit than for us to not truly realize our own beauty that lies on the outside and deep within ourselves. Our curves and every inch of our skin is what makes us beautiful.

From my own personal experiences with eating disorders, I have realized that only we can allow ourselves to have negative feelings about our bodies. We are the only ones who can love ourselves for who we are and our own individual beauty. And only we can stop ourselves from developing feelings that might prompt us to move towards eating disorder tendencies. Whether we’re on spring break or not, everything is all based on our opinions of ourselves and what we believe about our beauty.

This spring break and for now on, know there is nothing wrong with having some curves and know that you are beautiful just the way you are. Enjoy your break and use it as a time to start loving every inch of your skin. Recognize that when you begin to fully see the beauty in you, then you will begin to greatly celebrate everything that makes you, you. Your body is your beauty. As singer Meghan Trainor says, “Every inch of you is perfect, from the bottom to top.”
