There’s something to be said about things not working out the way that you’ve planned.
Actually, I take that back.
There’s A LOT to be said about it. It’s annoying. Frustrating. Disheartening. Overly emotional. All of those negative words that can eat away at you when you focus on something that you really wanted not going the way that you’ve planned. It’s easy to become numb, less hopeful and stay permanently there. However, it’s also just as easy to change your attitude about it.
I’m a big believer in everything happening for a reason. For me, I think of it as God saying that He has something else better in mind. For you, it might be the universe, Buddha, or something else. Either way, I have found that when something I wanted does not happen, I have always received something greater and better than I could have imagined in replace of it.
It reminds me of this photo that I saw in which God is trying to tell this little girl to give Him her little bear, but the girl is hesitant. Little does she know that God has a much better and bigger bear that He wants to exchange with her. If only she would decide to move past the little bear…
If only we would decide to move past the things that don’t go our way. Maybe the way to become happy when things don’t work out like we’ve planned is to believe that there is something greater in store. It’s possible for us to choose this way of thinking.
You could choose to believe that there is some other alternative or path that you are supposed to take that will get you to a better place than you could have imagined. So often we focus on a closed door. But in reality, we should see “setbacks” as “setups” as an open door to greater opportunities, people, and situations.
When we plan and aim, we shouldn’t be so set on something happening in a particular way. We can’t see the whole situation. We don’t know what will happening a year from now, we don’t know if a particular relationship could painfully hurt us down the line… there’s so much that we don’t know.
I believe that when we have a good heart, when we are honest with ourselves, and when we truly aim to live a life of deep meaning, good things will always come our way. There’s Someone or Something always looking out for us, leading us to where it is that we should be…leading us to the best place for ourselves. Therefore, there’s no point in wasting time crying over spilled milk or beating up on ourselves when things don’t go as planned.
We can be happy, knowing that eventually we are getting to the place, the person, the position, and the state of being that we hope for within our lives.
Everything is a journey and in that journey, there is always Someone or Something who knows what’s going on more than we do. We don’t need to worry about what’s to come. Instead, we can be happy and expectant, knowing that it will be better than anything we could have planned.
