Take This Advice: Don’t Be Too Practical, Aim Higher.

The problem is, maybe we all have become too practical. For many of us, growing up in a world full of negativity and consistent strikes against us has caused us to doubt ourselves, what’s possible for our lives, and to limit ourselves from reaching our full potential.

We have convinced ourselves of what’s possible for our lives. We have begun to settle for lives that we don’t want to live. We settle doing things that we don’t want to do. We’ve become too practical. We don’t see how we could ever become who we aspire to be or to do the things that we aspire to do. We have allowed others to tell us what is possible and not possible for our lives.

Do you feel this way?

I want to believe I’m not alone in my rational of noticing this train of thought in many of those around me who are my age. It’s like we’ve lost our sense of drive or belief in what is possible.

Somehow or other, as we moved passed the stage of dreaming big and being told to have big dreams, we got knocked down into thinking that “big dreams” weren’t possible for us. We decided to take people’s opinions of us to heart. We decided to stop pushing ourselves and pushing boundaries that we never thought possible. We settled into being practical.

Sure, being practical is needed when it comes to making important decisions, but I don’t think it’s necessary when it comes to our dreams. I think we shouldn’t be too practical in that territory. We should hope for greater, work to achieve greater, and believe greater is possible for us.

At the end of the day, we are the only ones who can limit ourselves from achievements that can go far beyond our wildest dreams. We would literally amaze ourselves if we tried to pursue things that we thought were not possible for ourselves, if we pushed the limits, and if we aimed to surpass those who make it their jobs to tell us what it is that we can achieve.

I don’t know about you but I don’t want to look back over my life and wonder, “What if?” I don’t want to be so wrapped up in coloring in the lines that I don’t fully live and reach higher than I thought possible. I want to do more, be more, and not be too practical. As long as I am able to follow my heart, I think not being too practical is the only path that I want to run down during my life.
