The idea of “leadership” needs a major reboot. It needs a remix. Shoot, it needs a whole new record label and new arrangements. We need Millennials to see the impact they can have as leaders, and to do that we need a new framework that highlights purpose and humanity more, and flash and hubris less.
I’m sick and tired of reading the same old reports on the millennial generation. “Millennials are entitled. They’re too sensitive. They’re… [insert stereotype here].” I’m done being labeled by other generations.
Even in the face of economic uncertainty, we remain open-minded and optimistic. Our shared struggles have produced a spirit of empathy unlike anything else, because even the most privileged can fall from grace. If you truly believe that Millennials are apathetic, unenthused, disinterested, and selfish, you clearly haven’t had the opportunity to work with us.
My generation is still wired to work hard, commit to their craft, and focus. We merely have been forced to take a different path to get there. The generation that raised us would have likely reacted the same way had they been raised in our circumstances.
During this transition of Donald Trump becoming our President, we have to push forward and stay calm. We need to be more united now than ever before.
Millennials get knocked for having big dreams. As if having goals, plans, and wanting to do something significant with your life is a personality flaw. We just want to live on purpose with purpose. How’s this a bad thing?
