Our lives are like back-to-back meetings during a 9-5 job with barely a lunch break.
We fight for moments to just sit down and to have a nice lunch. Even when we finally sit down, we are checking our emails and social channels, letting the entire 10 minutes to eat our meal pass us by. We barely have time for dinner anymore with jobs requiring after hour contact.
Why do we need to take a break?
It’s quite simple and we all know why we need to rest. If we don’t take a break we burnout. We become tired of our jobs because we feel overworked. We become dissatisfied with our lives because we have no time to relax or even progress forward. We feel as though we are putting out fires every day. This unhappiness only results in negative actions. We abruptly quit our jobs, leave our spouse or even in some cases just randomly snap into a rage. Whether it be a wife and mother who never has time for herself. Or the ambitious female working two jobs just to pay rent while trying to get a degree. Or the corporate worker with a career that demands 24/7 attention. We all get burned out. That is why we all must take a break.
Taking a break is necessary.
If you want to get biblical, the Bible talks about resting on the seventh day of the week. To simply do no work and rejuvenate yourself. The seventh day is to rest our hearts, minds and body so we can have a fresh start to the new week. That’s the beauty of God’s love. He gave us a whole day of rest!
And if you want to just get real, it’s important to know that we should take take breaks and to know when we need to take breaks. We must prevent ourselves from doing something that we will later regret. There is a moment that sparks our consciousness to take action and to think about our lives in reality.
So what should we do when taking a break?
Do what is right for you.
If that means reading a book, getting a massage, taking a long shower or bath, sleeping in, cooking a new recipe, sitting by the water, laying on your couch listening to your favorite album, or just simply sitting in silence, then do it! Do whatever you need to do to take a break. Make sure you can hear yourself clearly. Your thoughts and ambitions speak when you take time for yourself.
Once you finally take a REAL rest you will feel the power that is within you. You will finally feel ready to take on whatever comes your way. You will finally understand the importance of resting.
We all need a break sometimes. I’m not saying weeks and years away from life. It can just be a 10 minute or an hour escape. Just make sure you are taking care of yourself.
Peace. Love. And Happiness for Self.
