Friendships & Milkshakes: The Best Things To Have When You Need A Break

Today, was an exhausting.
 

It was one of those days after an insanely busy week that leaves you with only one desire: to watch Modern Family in bed and eat popcorn straight out of the tri-flavor economy tin. I spent all the better part of the day lounging with the heater on blast, keeping cozy in my twin with a beach read.  
 

But, soon evening rolled around, and I’d done absolutely nothing with my Sunday.  
 

Though I wanted to savor what I had left of my lazy day, I climbed out of my comfy cozy cave and ventured to the dining hall with my laptop to type a response paper. Thirty minutes before the doors closed for the evening, I slipped in and plopped a burrito onto my plate. The main seating area of the dining hall was very crowded with almost every table in the room occupied.  
 

Normally, this would be my cue to try downstairs but I kept walking until I saw a somewhat familiar face. This was a guy in my English class who never said a peep and kept his eyes fixed on our 3348-page anthology for the past seven classes.  
 

Tonight, his physics book was open wide in front of him, but he looked up when I neared the table.
 

“Cool if I join you, dude?”  
 

“Yeah, I want tired of rereading the same paragraph. Need a break.”  
 

Two hours later, the dining hall doors were closed and everyone but us had their books and laptops out in preparation for their 8:10 AM classes. Not us. A. and I laughed over our pumpkin spice milkshakes at our professor’s handlebar mustache.  
 

“Man, that was such a good talk, but I have to run to the library. Let’s do this again next week.”  
 

It’s safe to say that exhaustion can turn into rejuvenation if you play your cards right and wake yourself (and others) up. Maybe meeting new people is the best way to kill two birds with one stone… or at least give them a seasonal sugar rush.
