Are you an optimistic person or a positive one?
A potential investor I met a few weeks back told me he is optimistic about our deal. My reply was nothing he imagined me saying.
Me: “I am sorry, but I can not allow myself to be an optimistic person”
Andreas: “Oh, why would you say that?”
Me: “I am a positive person not an optimistic person.”
Andreas: “What’s the difference?”
Me: “An optimistic person thinks that everything is and will be fine. A positive person knows what the world really looks like and is determined to maintain a good attitude towards challenges to come.”
Andreas: “WOW,,,…..eeemmm.. you gave me something to think about…eee I like it.”
I don’t appreciate optimistic people, dare I say that I don’t trust them. Another word for these people can be “verbally self-promising” as when the time comes (and it will come) and life takes a turn, you optimistic people will be surprised rather than the preparation for any challenge to come positive people.
Positive people are consistent in their behavior regardless of the situation they face, while optimistic people do not expect to face any situation but the best outcome at any time.
In a fun and with humor, I once acted insulted when my friend “gave me a compliment”| (or so he thought) and said, “I like you, you’re an optimistic person.” As soon as I hear that I went all out on him. To make a long story short, he admitted that there is a difference and loved my approach regarding the whole thing.
We need more positive people walking around on this earth, they are the ones who come up with a creative solution to difficult challenges on a daily basis. The optimistic ones hide in the office doing their best in HOPES everything will continue to be ok.
Please ask yourself today this question, and if it doesn’t stick, feel free to ask it daily.
Would you rather be optimistic today or positive?
Would your spouse or sibling rather see you positive or optimistic? Would you like them to learn how to be more optimistic or positive?
these question can pierce deep into some of us with kids, and maybe shape the minds of new thinkers, helping them understand the slight change in wording and the magnitude of an effect it can bring in our lives.
