Need A Boost To Get By? These Meaningful Quotes Will Get You Through Any Discouraging Moment

John Lennon famously stated, “All you need is love.”

But, we all know that sometimes you need a little bit more than love. For the times that you may require a little bit more motivation, here are a few quotes to get you by.

DURING CAREER STRUGGLES
If you are a recent grad struggling to find the perfect career or – face it – any job that pays more than minimum wage, Viktor Kiam has the right idea to keep you filling out those job applications. His thought process – “Even if you fall on your face, you’re still moving forward.” Falling on your face is a rite of passage; you never learn to ride a bike without getting a few bumps and scratches.

TO GET OUT OF THE FALL-ON-YOUR-FACE MOMENT
When you need that extra push to get out of the fall-on-your-face moment, remember what Marvin Phillips stresses. In his words, “The difference between try and triumph is a little umph.” Getting out of bed is one of the hardest things to do when you’re warm and snuggled up. The world can seem so large and menacing outside of your little cocoon. Use every last bit of ‘umph’ to push yourself towards succeeds. After all, “Comfort is the enemy of achievement,” affirms a wise, yet anonymous (wo)man.

WHEN YOUR SADNESS IS TOO MUCH TO BEAR
For times when sadness overwhelms you mind, body, and soul, James Thurber suggests that the best combat is laughter. He insists, “Humor is emotional chaos remembered in tranquility.” While you may not be feeling up to watching Louis C.K.’s latest stand-up special, be kind to yourself; wallowing in sorrow will only propel you deeper into it. Sadness is belligerent, persistent, and aggressive. Humor is just the same, except instead of dragging you down, it fills your mind with positivity.

FOR ALL MOMENTS INVOLVING HEARTACHE
Besides humor, James Thurber also has some thoughts on love. The abstract nature of love is so hard to pinpoint that purely describing the emotion attached to the word doesn’t do it justice. It’s so often abused by the media, by young people who are just beginning to understand attraction, by eager men and women who cannot find another word to express caring. No, love is something that carries much more weight. Thurber claims, “Love is what you’ve been through with somebody.”

TO GET THROUGH CHANGE
However, no matter what two people might have been through, no matter how deep the connection or how strong the love, nothing can last forever. Neil Gaiman asserts that this is part of everyday life. Great things, it seems, end way too soon. High school ends, friendships end, books end. However, this means that sadness will end, too. In Gaiman’s words, “It always ends. That’s what gives it value.”

WHEN BELIEVING IN YOURSELF IS HARD
And, finally, just to keep you believing in yourself, I think these words by Brad Henry give just the right boost: “Believe in yourself, and the rest will fall into place. Have faith in your own abilities, work hard, and there is nothing you cannot accomplish.”

Stay encouraged and don’t lose your momentum on your journey!
