A large part of the fun of getting married is planning the ceremony and reception. It is easy to get carried away renting all the things you want for your special day and forget about the things you really need. To avoid coming up short, be sure to devote some thought and planning, not to mention sufficient funds in your budget, to the essentials before you think about the extras. Here are some reminders of the things you really need for your wedding ceremony and reception.

1. Furniture

This includes table rentals for the reception and seating for the reception and possibly the ceremony itself, depending on the venue. When you are renting tables and chairs for the reception, there are a few important things to keep in mind.

First, you will need tables for purposes other than guest seating. You might want to set up a table for presents and you will almost certainly have to have a separate table on which to display and cut the cake. Second, when you are ordering chairs for the reception, be sure that you include your wedding party, not just the guests, in the total number.

2. Linens

Once you have tables, you should have tablecloths with which to cover them. This helps protect from spills and gives the whole reception a touch of class. Many couples also opt for cloth napkins instead of paper ones for their guests. Not only do these provide an air of elegance, but they are also more environmentally friendly because they are reusable.

3. Tableware

This includes everything that you and your guests may need to eat and drink with, such as plates, silverware, wine glass rental, etc. It is usually considered tacky to ask your wedding guests to eat off disposable dinnerware. Renting these items prevents you from having to make an impractical purchase of china for 150 guests or more.

4. Lighting

If the ceremony and/or reception take place after dark, then this is absolutely essential. However, the lighting that you choose can also help to enhance the atmosphere of the venue at any time of day. Candles are a popular choice because they are so romantic. If you rent candle holders, you do not need to worry about cleaning the wax out of them later, a chore that is decidedly unromantic.

5. Dance Floor

If your venue is inside, this is one that you can probably scratch off the list because there will probably be a hard floor on which to dance. However, if your venue is outdoors, then this is a necessity that you will have to provide to prevent tripping accidents due to high heels sinking into the grass. Not only will a dance floor rental help keep your guests safer and more comfortable, it also helps to better define your space.

6. Tent

There are many advantages to renting a tent for an outdoor wedding. It provides protection from weather conditions of rain or sun, it provides a framework on which to hang speakers or string lights, and it also provides a personal and romantic ambiance.

You don’t have to worry about generic rental items that you might find at any wedding. Some rental companies offer vintage items that you can mix and match for a unique style.
