It Doesn’t Always Feel Like It, But I’ve Found Everything Works For Your Good.

It’s hard to imagine that everything is working for your good, when things are not going your way. AT ALL.

OK. Here’s my rant: FRUSTRATINGLY. COMPLETELY. OVERWHELMINGLY. TOTALLY. REMORSEFULLY. ETC. ETC.

Done now. 🙂

Yes, it’s hard to picture that the whole thing could directly be for your benefit. Or is it…

The older I get, the more I realize EVERY SINGLE THING is working for your good. Yes, let me repeat that: EVERYTHING SINGLE THING IS WORKING FOR YOUR GOOD. Look, I know in the moment that something bad happens, it’s really hard to believe this.

It’s especially hard to believe this when… whatever it is that has happened or that you are going through could be painful. The situation could feel detrimental. You feel like everything is working against you. Or you’re just intensely thinking and scratching your head wondering, “What the heck? Why is this happening to me/ why did this have to happen to me?” Trust me, I know the feeling.

But then, maybe, just maybe down the line, you may say to yourself, “I’m so glad that happened that way, instead of the other way that I wanted.” Or you may say, “Now I understand why everything happened like it did.”

Yep, there it is.

That moment of realization that maybe, just maybe everything is working out for your good.

With all of the dilemmas and problems that have been intertwined along my life journey, I can say that I wholeheartedly believe it to be true that everything is working for your goo. I know this belief is connected to the Bible, but I think it is truly a universal truth. I love how renowned pastor Rick Warren recently noted, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them (Romans 8:28)… all things are working together for good — not that all things are good — but working together for good.” Warren shared in one of his daily devotionals, “There is no difficulty, dilemma, defeat, or disaster in the life of a believer that God can’t ultimately turn toward His purpose.” You see, someone everything works for our good.

This idea of everything working together is something that many others have discovered. For example, legendary Apple co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs once said, “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.” It’s the guiding dots that somehow allow us to realize –as we look back– why things needed to happen the way they did, or to have peace with the ultimate way that things happened.

Like I keep saying, in the moment of that crisis, that problem, that rejection, that break-up, that thwarted dream, or whatever that disappointment, you may feel completely baffled by the universe, God, or whatever as to why the situation is happening. But, at the end of the day, I believe we have to keep trusting and keep believing that in all things, everything is working out for our good. Everything.

Nothing just happens. There is always some reason, some greater purpose that we may not be able to see now or later. We just have to trust there is a purpose to everything.

I hope this can inspire you to realize that despite what you might be facing or have faced, somehow or another it is all shaping your ultimate purpose; who you are; and there is some purpose to be found in it. No matter how bad or evil or difficult something seems, I believe God will always work it out for good. You just have to trust and believe it for yourself.
