Here’s My Version Of The True Meaning Of Christmas

As the song goes, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year!”

Christmas carols on repeat on every radio station, favorite holiday movies back-to-back on television and seasonal spiced drinks are making their way back on the menus. Yep, Christmas is a special time.

However, between all the hustle and bustle of fighting to find a parking spot at the mall and trying to buy the perfect gift for your friend, the true meaning of Christmas can begin to fade away from our minds. And for many, the meaning is something different.

I was intrigued to find out only 40% of Millennials say Christmas has any religious significance, according to a 2013 survey conducted by Pew Research Center. Moreover, the study revealed although nine out of a total of ten of them take part in Christmas festivities, only four of them believe that the holiday is of religious significance to them.

For me, no matter what commercialized card brands tell us, there would be no Christmas without Jesus Christ. Christmas is not only a time to eat good food and exchange presents- it’s a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus. December 25th is the day the whole world honors and celebrates Jesus’ birthday! He truly is the reason for The Season. It doesn’t matter what religion you may be, Christmas is a day for everyone to experience the love of God for all His children.

In the Christmas song, “O Holy Night,” there is a line that truly represents the reality of Christ’s birth for us all. It goes: “Long lay the world in sin and error pining, ’Til He appeared and the soul felt its worth.”

This simple lyric holds so much profoundness, because it reminds us that the moment Jesus Christ came into this world as a newborn, it was the purest and most innocent sign of God’s love for us. In Christ we find our true identity and our worth – we find our invaluable dignity as human beings!

So Rejoice! Celebrate the arrival of The Baby Boy who saved us all! Rejoice and be glad because God loves you. No matter what struggles you may be facing during this Christmas season, find your peace and rest your hearts in the fact that Christ is now here with us to give us freedom from our heartache and a brand new tomorrow.

“A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn’

Fall on your knees, O hear the angels’ voices

O night divine, O night when Christ was born

O night divine, O night divine.”

I pray you have a very Merry Christmas! May you be filled with peace, love and the excitement of Christ’s birth! God Bless you and your loved ones during this special time of year!
