Recently Kanye West released a song called Yikes!!! Kanye West says, “That’s my bipolar s**t, n**a what?/That’s my superpower, ni**a ain’t no disability/I’m a superhero! I’m a superhero!”

While Kanye has said some controversial things lately he is right when he says his bipolar is not a disability. In fact, anyone with any mental health illness is not disabled.  I suffer from PTSD, which is post-traumatic stress disorder, and I have superpowers to help anyone dealing with any mental condition overcome it and develop better coping skills to live as well as survive each and every day.

I’m a superhero and I refuse to allow anyone suffering from depression, anxiety, bi-polar, PTSD or suicidal ideation to live in darkness or silence. I want to encourage any and everyone dealing with a mental illness to know that they are not alone. You have superpowers to help someone else recover from mental illness.

You are a superhero each day you wake up and survive the dark moments in your life. Don’t live in silence but live with hope knowing the next day will be better. Don’t let anyone make you feel like having a mental illness is shameful.

Your mental health illness gives you superpowers so use it for the better good. You are no less than anyone else who has to battle cancer or heart disease. You are a superhero so believe in your abilities to encourage someone else.

While some days might be better than others. Don’t give up or feel like what you are facing that you are dealing with alone. Having a mental illness gives you a strong sense of purpose and direction. So keep fighting and believe that Your Voice in the fight for mental health awareness is needed. I realized my PTSD gave me a greater purpose to my life and I’m fighting to help others each day I wake up.

I’m a superhero and I am not disabled. I got superpowers that make me better each day to save lives of others. My voice will not be silenced and I will not live in shame. I hope you live your life out loudly and don’t be afraid to say you got superpowers too. In fact, say you are not disabled but you are a superhero ready to speak up and save others dealing with mental illnesses.
