Many people feel the obligation to leave their mark on this world by making monumental changes in our society. However, I believe simple acts of kindness not only lead you to live a happier and more benevolent life, but also still allow you to create positive changes in our world overtime.
The simplest actions are at times the most difficult ones to bring ourselves to do. Something as mundane as waking up can lead to you impacting mankind. You were put on this earth for a reason, so give yourself a chance to face life’s challenges by waking up and doing good in the world. You could be the key factor in curing cancer, fixing a disaster, or writing the next best-seller. Don’t deny or overlook yourself of these opportunities.
An action we often take for granting is smiling to a stranger. That smile could change a person’s day around. That small chance of making a stranger’s day better is worth the minor risk of smiling at those who pass you by. A smile can be a reminder to someone that people out there do care about them, and this world isn’t completely hopeless. How much of a greater impact can you ask for than to make other people feel better? Sometimes a simple smile is all they need.
Now, let’s take this a step further; donate money to a stranger. Those who ask for money are more than likely in greater need of charity than you. If you donate just $1 to that stranger, are you going to miss that dollar the next day? What they choose to do with the money they receive is up to them, but I encourage you to donate to someone you truly feel could use the money to better themselves. You could donate to a homeless person, a church, a charity, or anywhere you feel needs the donation. As Winston Churchill said,
“
We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
Altruism is a simple act that can greatly impact issues on a greater scale.
Lastly, I leave you with this advice: tell the people who you love that you love them whenever you can. Sometimes just feeling the emotion is not enough. Vocalize it. Whether it be your parents, significant other, or best friend, tell them you love them. They deserve to be reminded. You must love them for a reason. It’s so easy to forget to do this on a regular basis, however, telling someone you love them maintains a healthy relationship. Building these healthy relationships can lead to a more positive life, thus motivating you to make bigger gestures to improve your life and the lives of others even further.
Whether you are remembered centuries from now falls more on the shoulders of people in the future. All you can do in the present is better yourself and the lives of those around you. If you do those things, can you ever say you lived a bad life? I highly doubt it. Remember to consistently wake up believing you have a great purpose to fulfill, regularly smile at others, help others, and make sure to tell those you love, that you love them whenever you can.
