Your life was meant for you to live.

It was meant for you to embrace your uniqueness, your thoughts, and your abilities to impact the world. It was not meant for someone else to tell you how to live it.

Some might believe they know more than you about your life. They believe they know more about your dreams and who you want to be than you do. They may even try to tell you things that have worked for their lives, believing that they will work for you.

However, that’s not always the case. What has worked for other people does not always work for you, because you are your own person. You know what works for you. Listening to other people all the time and doing what they say can inhibit your potential. As Dr. Seuss said, “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” Yep, Dr. Seuss summed it up just about right.

Here are seven points on why you need to live your own life and not someone else’s version of it:

1. Your life is necessary. Your dreams are necessary, and only you can achieve them in the way that you were created to do. Just ask motivational speaker Les Brown:

2. Living a limited life is…sad. Co-founder, chairman and CEO of Apple Inc. Steve Jobs knew this for sure:

3. You need to be true to yourself and be vulnerable. Without doing so, you never really live. Just ask researcher Brené Brown:

4. Your heart and intuition already know who you want to become. Steve Jobs definitely knew this, too:

5. And finally, choosing to be yourself and to live your life on your own terms is the greatest accomplishment, ever. Just think of these words by poet Ralph Waldo Emerson:

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
