For Those Of You Who Missed Registering For Health Insurance, You Still Have Time

Besides the deadline of getting presents by the Christmas holiday, there are other deadlines to remember.

There are work deadlines, finals deadlines, and oh, the Affordable Care Act plan deadline. If you missed Monday’s deadline to sign up or change your healthcare insurance through the Affordable Healthcare Act, don’t worry. You still have time. Two months to be exact… until February 15.

However, there are some disadvantages that you face. For example, the new coverage won’t take effect until Feb. 1 at the earliest. Additionally, some experts say if your plan starts on February 1, the previous bills that you paid in January may not count towards your deductible in your new plan.

The ACA is in its second year and many American citizens now have health insurance. The White House reported there are 7.1 million Americans and nearly 3 million young adults under 26 (who were able to keep coverage by staying on their parents’ health insurance plan) were able to enroll in ACA.

The HHS estimates 5.9 million people will renew coverage for 2015. HHS further estimates  9 million and 9.9 million people will sign up for coverage by the end of the year.

If you are one of those who already have used the Marketplace to sign up for health insurance and missed the deadline, officials say you can still decide to change plans before February 15.

Coverage for 2014 will end December 31.
