Two more European soccer powerhouses are moving into the world of cryptocurrency thanks to recent business agreements. This continues a growing trend which is seeing several top European sides partnering with organizations that are founded in and specialize in the world of cryptocurrency.
Italian side SS Lazio, one of the top clubs in Serie A, has entered into a multi-year agreement that will make StormGain the team’s official crypto trading partner. Launched in July of 2019, StormGain is a centralized exchange registered in Seychelles. Their exchange facilitates the trading of major cryptocurrencies. These include Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), XRP, Bitcoin Cash (BCH), and Litecoin (LTC).
Meanwhile, top Turkish club Trabzonspor is the latest team to issue their own series of fan tokens that utilize the Blockchain voting and rewards app Socios.com.
The move of more and more sports clubs into the world of cryptocurrency isn’t all that surprising. Sports has proven to be on the cutting edge of the cryptocurrency explosion. When it comes to retailers, bitcoin sports betting sites were among the first businesses willing to step up and accept cryptocurrency as a form of payment for services.
Lazio Seeks Net Gain From StormGain Partnership
The 2020-21 season will be a big one for Lazio. The club is returning to competition in the UEFA Champions League for the first time since the 2015-16 season. In 2019-20, Lazio won the Supercoppa Italiana for the second time in three years and finished fourth overall in Serie A. That was the club’s best showing in league play since a third-place finish in 2014-15.
There couldn’t be a more optimal time for StormGain to pair up with Lazio.

The partnership will enable StormGain to increase fan engagement with the team through unique giveaways, including exclusive VIP suite hospitality at Lazio home matches, Category 1 tickets for each Lazio home game, and access to private tours and events at the club’s 70,000-seat Stadio Olimpico. It’s the largest sports facility in Rome.
“We are very proud of this partnership that will reinforce our innovative positioning,” SS Lazio Marketing, Sponsorship and Event Director Marco Canigiani said in a statement. “Our partnership will help us widening our international landscape and create at the forefront projects for our fans.”
This isn’t Lazio’s first venture into the blockchain. In March, the Italian side paired with blockchain game provider Sorare to offer tokenized player cards on the Ethereum blockchain.
Trabzonspor Offers Tokens

Seven-time Turkish League champions and nine-time Turkish Cup winners Trabzonspor are the latest soccer club to join the ever-expanding world of crypto tokens. The Trabzonspor ($TRA) fan token will enable supporters of the team to influence the club by voting in polls and earning exclusive rewards on Socios.com.
Awards that will be available include innovative digital experiences and real-life activations, such as meeting players and watching games like a VIP when fans are permitted to return to the stadiums.
A leaderboard feature that will allow fans to keep track of their rewards points based on how they interact with Trabzonspor through the app will be launched in the near future, enabling supporters to compete to become the No. 1 fan in their region or country. A chat feature and games will also be launched on Socios.com in the coming months.
Trabzonspor is the second Turkish soccer side to offer cryptocurrency fan tokens. Turkish club Galatasaray preceded Trabzonspor in partnering with Socios.com. Other soccer clubs that are Socios.com fan token partners include FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, AS Roma, CA Independiente and Apollon Limassol. Esports organizations Team Heretics and OG also offer fan tokens via Socios.com.
