Have you ever found yourself on a journey that you never dreamed you’d be?
For those of you who understand my question, you probably know that I’m not talking about a pleasant journey. I’m talking about a journey that will cause you to come face-to-face with your true self and what you’re made of. A journey that will stretch you. A journey that may even cause you to ask yourself, “How did I get here?”
Many of us have had these moments of self-reflection within our difficult journeys. These are the pivotal journeys on the greater road trip called, life, that can either take us up or down. During these times, it’s up to us to determine our perceptions of what may be happening. It’s up to us to take charge of how we react to what’s in front of us, and how we allow it to change us.
Case in point: We can either choose to see what’s happening to us as a never-ending journey and we allow ourselves to become stuck in a “defeated” mentality… or we can choose to see it as a temporary journey that we can surpass with an “overcomer” mentality. By choosing the latter, we gain courage to move forward. We stop ourselves from getting caught up in everything going wrong, and instead, focus on all of the things that are still going right for us.
“
When we can begin to see our difficult journeys as temporary, everything becomes a little bit easier to handle. We don’t feel the weight on our shoulders so much.”
More over, temporary, harsh journeys can shape us for the better, if we allow. They can root notions, beliefs, and strengths within us that we could have only gained through a difficult journey.
And that’s the thing about our life road trip and the journeys we face along the way. Each journey is just for a moment of time; a temporary embarking. If we trust this notion, then we can stop ourselves from getting so stressed out when things don’t go our way. Instead, we change our perspective and know that what’s to come is going to be much better than the journey we’re facing.
Yes, some journeys are better than others. However, all of them are temporary.
It’s through these journeys that we grow, we become more than we are. Our true selves become ingrained within us and ignite us, helping us to rise above whatever we may be facing into the journey that awaits us.
