During my life, I worked hard so that by the time that it was time for me to start my career, I would be set and on my way. Or, so I thought…
I guess you could say I worked hard and then was applying and then waiting for my opportunity. After college, this waiting thing proved right. I waited and tried. Waited and tried. And waited. Half the time it felt like I was waiting more than I was trying. In whatever it was that I was attempting to pursue, I also hoped that someone would see my potential and give me a chance. I tried creating opportunities for myself that could eventually lead to something else. Unfortunately, this didn’t always work out.
And evidently, I wasn’t the only one waiting in one position, trying find a way to get into another. And actuality, far worse has happened for many of us, like unemployment. So now, what I’ve realized is that our generation is the one to create to fix the job market and this whole unemployment problem. We are the leaders of tomorrow. Seriously.
Think about what would happen if actually tried to do something about the current situation. If we tried to create our own companies, jobs, and ideals.
What if we were the ones to overturn what’s happening?
Honestly, I think we are.
I think we can change things by becoming entrepreneurs and by creating our own opportunities to get to where it is that we want to be. We need to stop hoping, guessing, waiting, and beating up on ourselves for what has happened to us. Instead, we need to create the jobs we want, help our peers by creating jobs for them, and change the system, as we know it.
I know some of us made feel inadequate in doing this or scared to do this. I can relate. But at this point, I don’t think we have much of a choice. We need to take that step forward. We can’t be scared of failure, because the truth is, the system has already failed us in many ways. Look at the student debt we have. Look at the economy. Look at our unemployment. Look at the chaos hitting us that we didn’t even cause upon ourselves.
It’s not fair and it’s not right for what our current situation is. But instead of complaining about it and hoping for things to get better, we can fix it. We can address unemployment by stepping into entrepreneurship and by changing the status quo. We can change it.
I don’t know about you, but I’m so tired of waiting for the government to do it more or waiting for companies to do it more. We need to do it. We need to see the value in our skills, our ambitions, and our ability to change the world. I mean, what’s the worst that could happen? We mess up along the way? That’s nothing. At least we tried. We need to start to try and stop ourselves from getting in the way.
We need to fix what has happened to us. We can do it. You can do it.
