The past few years have taught me one of the most important lessons regarding a certain part of my life. It was a lesson that I have to admit that I used to take lightly.
That part? The people who love me.
The people who have stuck by me through the most challenging times of my life. The people who really know me. The people who really care about me. The people who could care less about what profession I have or how far I fall. They are the people who love me, no matter what.
In the hustle of life, it was easy for me to look pass this lesson, to take it for granted. I got so caught up in fitting in, getting to where I wanted to be, and trying to please all of the wrong people that I didn’t even realize that the most important people were right in front of me. Our world continuously makes us feel that we have to try to network with all the right people, sometimes kiss butt, and go the extra mile just to “get in” with the right people. But who the heck are these right people anyway? And do these right people really even care? The answer? No.
Most of the people we are trying to “chase” are the ones we should be running from. I strongly believe that the people who are supposed to be in our lives will come into our lives naturally. We don’t have to chase them down.
And most of all, when the right people do come into our lives, we shouldn’t take their presence for granted. We shouldn’t think that they are supposed to be the way that they are. It’s a beautiful gift when you have people who will stick by you through all of your hardships and downfalls; people who will inspire you and encourage you to realize the potential that you have; and people who will help you to believe in yourself in the moments that you can’t.
I’m remembering the people who have stuck by me and remembering to not take them for granted. Life is too short to take lightly the people who think the world of you, even when you sometimes can’t see the great things that lie within you. These people are the ones who matter the most.
