Unemployment among the Millennial Generation, particularly in minority communities, is at record levels, and entrepreneurship can serve as pathway toward economic mobility.
While many young people of color have the intuition and drive to succeed, many believe there is still a gap in understanding how to translate entrepreneurial dreams into viable businesses. However, when nurtured through proper education, support, and coaching, young entrepreneurs can found enriching small business endeavors that will benefit the individuals and the communities in which they live.
President Obama and many are taking steps to help young people gain the necessary tools to become entrepreneurs and give back to their communities. My Brother’s Keeper is President Obama’s initiative to empower young people, particularly young men of color, to improve their life outcomes and overcome barriers to success.
In partnership with President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Initiative and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Mike Muse, CEO of Muse Recordings, will serve as SBA’s My Brother’s Keeper Millennial Entrepreneur Champion. In his role, he helps America’s Millennial generation improve their entrepreneurial skills and pave the way to encourage the next wave of entrepreneurs and innovators.
As part of the partnership, Muse has created a series to highlight the journeys of various entrepreneurs called, My Brother’s Keeper Millennial Entrepreneurs Video Series on BizMyWay.com. In the video series, six entrepreneurs speak with Muse about their paths in entrepreneurship and the truths they gained along the way.
One of the most recent videos focuses on fashion guru and Millennial entrepreneur, Ty Hunter. Known as Beyonce’s stylist, Ty is making a name for himself in the fashion industry. In addition, he owns his own fashion collection called, ServedFresh™. Ty says the collection was created to raise awareness about social and pop-cultural topics, while polishing design into a clothing brand with purpose.
