Author Sarah Dessen’s book, This Lullaby, fits that category for this week’s inspiring read.
A favorite read of the RIZZARR team, the book’s main character Remy is someone who we all can relate to at times. She’s afraid of being vulnerable and afraid to follow her heart.
“Remy, a girl who always knows how to end a relationship before it becomes emotional, meets her match in Dexter, a musician who embodies everything that she despises and reminds her of the father who abandoned her. Remy finds herself unable to dump Dexter — and learns to follow her heart,” author Dessen wrote on her website in regards to the book.
What we love about the story even more is that it’s a story of taking a leap of faith in love and in accepting yourself.
As author Dessen says, “Basically, this is a story about faith. Faith in love (bear with me here) and just faith in general. Remy’s tragic flaw, of sorts, is that she’s afraid to take a chance on something she can’t guarantee. She wants hard proof, facts, a mathematical equation where X equals Y, before she’ll even begin to think about taking any kind of risk. But what she learns—what we all learn, eventually—is that the living is in the leaping. Sometimes, you just have to close your eyes, and jump.”
