H4O: A Movement of Young People Providing Water Around The World

Do you know that 1.1 billion people have no access to clean water?
Most Americans do not realize how much of an impact water has on people’s lives. In many countries, people are suffering from a lack of food, goods, resources, and, most importantly, water. Many people do not know which countries suffer from not having access to clean water. I think it is time for those who are more fortunate to help those in need.
The organization Hands 4 Others (H4O) helps teenagers around the U.S. reach out to many villages around the world and provide fresh, drinkable water- one village and one family at a time.

Those of H40 say, “Our mission began with a simple challenge: to look beyond the comforts of our teenage lives and do something for others in need. Each of us, having traveled outside the United States, could not shake the images of children and families forced to spend most of their time gathering insufficient amounts of dirty water – water we would not bathe in, let alone drink.”
Three and a half million people will die this year because of waterborne disease. Six thousand children will die today because of a lack of clean water. Don’t these numbers shock you and make you want to make a difference in the world?
By 2015, H4O wants to have helped more than 2 million people in 500 villages by giving back to families and communities. The first village that H4O provided clean water for was in Kenya. So far, 100,000 people have been given clean water. Amazingly, those in the non-profit have also provided clean water to people in Indonesia, Honduras, Haiti and many parts of Africa.
The services that H4O provides will save thousands of lives across the globe. With the technology that we have today, it is still unthinkable that many around the globe have to walk for hours to get water due to impoverished conditions. Sadly, most of the time they come back with nothing because of the low amount of water or contamination.

To solve this problem, two of H4O’s main goals are to inspire children and save lives, so that the next generation to come can also help people in need. Children and families in 10 countries around the world are now being helped. People around the world should not have to struggle to obtain the bare essentials.
H4O has helped thousands of people survive. The world needs more passionate people and the young leaders today are on a mission to make a change. Dirty water kills. Clean water keeps people alive.
