School is almost out!

And, for some of you high school students and college students, you’re now hustling trying to get that dream summer internship you’ve had in mind.

But, you have no clue as to how you will secure that dream internship of yours! Don’t stress! We’re offering you five quick ways to help you nail that dream summer internship of yours!

1. Fix your ‘online brand.’ Before you begin contacting anyone, make sure that your ‘online’ brand is good, meaning that those inappropriate pictures of you during that one party or those inappropriate/ questionable tweets of yours are taken down immediately. Nowadays, your online brand is everything. With one Google search, you can be knocked out of getting your dream internship oh-so quickly. So make sure you best the ‘online’ brand test, before you look like a hot mess.

2. Call the company! Figure out exactly where you want to intern and take the time to call. By calling the company and trying to get in touch with the person who is hiring, you are more likely to stand out of the pack and show your initiative. It’s always a good idea to get in touch directly with the person who is hiring for interns. Even if it seems like a hustle trying to figure out who this person is, just keep calling and connecting with person after person until you find out who’s in charge of the interns for your particular department.

3. Do your research. Time and time again, companies have noted that prospective interns fail to do their research not only on the department of the company that they will be interning in, but also on important aspects of the company, including the goals of the department, the people in the department and more. Therefore, make sure that you do your research before you get into the interview so you can answer the necessary questions.

4. Practice for the interview so you can be your best self. Sometimes we think that we know it all and don’t need to ask for help when it comes to internship practicing. But, it’s always good to check in with a friend. By doing this, you’re more likely to be articulate and have the right answers. Don’t take this part lightly.

5. It’s this simple: Follow-up. So, you’ve landed the interview for your dream internship. And now, you think that you’re done. Wrong. Think again! After the interview, make sure you take the time to follow-up. This is huge! Many times after people go in for the interview, they often fail to say “thank you” for the opportunity to interview or later, they don’t even follow on the status of their application. Your willingness to take the initiative and follow-up shows that you really, really want the internship.

Good luck!!!
