The kitchen might be the heart of the home, but the bathroom is the room that transforms from a hectic hive on busy working mornings to an oasis of me-time and relaxation in the evening. It is a frequently used room and it has to store all the toiletries of the household. It has to be practical and hygienic, but also welcoming. Don’t forget that it is not only a functional private space, but it can also be used by your guests. Therefore, it should not be overlooked when it comes to design and aesthetics. If given a little attention, the bathroom is the room that can make a house look really luxurious.
While a full renovation might seem like a real enterprise, there are many little things you can do to completely refresh your bathroom. They require just a little effort, a reasonable budget and can be completed in a couple of days or even less. Let’s get started.
1. Textiles
The use of texture and color is everything in interior design. The right choices can completely change the feeling of a room. While all the surfaces in a bathroom have texture and color, you don’t necessarily need to change the tiles and all the furniture. The easiest way to go about it is to think about textiles.
First of all, get rid of your damp, moldy bath mat and exchange it for a soft and fluffy new one. It will be more hygienic and bring a comfy touch to the floor.
Secondly, renew your towels! You can go for classic big white ones that will bring a feeling of hotel room luxury, choose a monochromatic set in your favorite color, or opt for towels of different colors and sizes for a bohemian summery atmosphere.
Depending on your bathtub, you can also change your shower curtain. A bold design will automatically bring new life to a dull bathroom. Make sure to go for a water-repellent, sturdy fabric.
Bathroom textiles are not only mats, towels, and shower curtains. You can introduce some living room comfort by hanging up full-length drapes. They will bring warmth and texture to a space that can otherwise easily seem cold.
2. Tapware
The easiest way to bring luxury to your bathroom is to change the tapware. Getting new tapware installed is not a dramatic intervention, but it can make a drastic difference. Modern or traditional, separates or mixer taps, golden, silver, or copper with a shiny or matte finish – new faucets will make your bath and washbasin look altogether new.
3. Greenery
Plants are evergreen in interior design, but they have been even more trendy in the last few years. The more the merrier, and in every room if possible, bathroom included. Obviously, this is because plants are an effortless way to add texture, shape and color to any space.
There is a big variety of plants that thrive in humidity and do not need direct light exposure, which makes them perfect for the bathroom. You can choose the iconic monstera, low-maintenance bamboo, the mystical English ivy, the stylish snake plant, an elegant orchid and several types of fern. You can also make a statement with a big fiddle leaf fig, a majesty palm or a purple tradescantia zebrina.
However, If you are not good at keeping plants alive, there are also many artificial variants that actually look very realistic and will do the job just fine.
4. Accessories
Accessories are an important part of the bathroom. They need to be functional, but they can also contribute greatly to the design and feel of the bathroom. Think of your soap tray or dispenser, toothbrush holder, towel rail or ring, toilet roll holder, toilet brush, toilet seat, and other little things. They could probably be replaced for hygienic reasons and for a refreshed look of your bathroom.
All these objects can come in a variety of materials and shapes. You can get a stylish modernistic coordinated set or buy them separately for a playfully eclectic look.
5. Storage
Even though bathrooms need to store a lot of stuff, between the bath, washbasin, toilet, and maybe even the washing machine, there is often not a lot of space left for furniture. That is why you need to think very well about how to organize the space.
Your bathroom could instantly look cleaner and better organized with just a couple of small interventions. Today there are many smart solutions for storage in small spaces such as small shelves to hang on the wall, shelves made from fabric to hang on a hook from the ceiling, ladders to lean on the wall as a towel rail, various trays to organize your skincare items and so on. Don’t forget your laundry hamper and trash can – they could also probably be exchanged for a more practical and stylish version.
A bathroom refresh need not cost the earth or require professional help to execute. As you’ve just read, there are many different ideas which you can apply in your home and help make your design ideas come to life.
